Beyond it all

Walking through the garden this morning felt great. Fresh morning air hit me with such force! Yesterday was simple and full of joy and so shall today be too! I look forward to reading and learning more new things today. The neighbours have cleared their compound of overgrown, unruly climbers and now sunlight streams into our kitchen! In the mornings the trees are brilliantly lit!

Life is full of little beautiful things, if only we care to notice even as we rush around getting things done. I see many of my friends, family, running around morning to evening, finishing tasks, attending to their work. At some point I wonder if they don't tire of not having time to themselves, to sit down and gather their thoughts. Probably they are okay that way! But I have to have this little time to myself every day to just sit down and look around and really see and enjoy a few moments of quiet.

This moment is all we truly have.

It feels like going back to the old days. Taking one day at a time, one hour at a time, one moment at a time and carefully filling it with only positivity and happiness. Was tough to begin with but got easy over just a little bit of time. And so here I am again, one more time, doing just that :)

Its a good thing to begin one's day reading something positive, inspirational. Shutting one's eyes and connecting with peace. Today is beautiful. I am yet to begin work on redoing the garden and right now its full of weeds! But I look forward to cleaning it up, changing the design, planting a few new trees, new flowering plants. Every day is an opportunity to begin life itself anew, every moment is. We either take it or we don't. Like I read somewhere yesterday, moment by moment, choice by choice, we create our life. We are all free to choose the attitude we will wear for the day, no matter how the day is :)

And so today I choose joy.

Painting rain

I want to paint the rains today. Away from the bustle of work for a few days, I am here in my sanctuary with my palette of colours. They paint pictures or poetry... what is the difference anyway? Painting the rains is painting the cold fine spray of water through the grilled door shutting out the night. Painting the soft glow of the amber table lamp with a scene from the Ramayana painted on the cream shade in many colours. Painting the innocence of a little child pleading to play in the water. Painting love.

My colours have created a swirl of amber, light pink and green on white paper. I tire of the effort. I tire because I want to scoop them with my hands and wear them on my heart, but I can't do that. I tire because I cannot show them to anyone. I tire because I am attempting something I can never achieve. I tire because I cannot bring those rains back. So I leave it unfinished, unspoken like a handclasp severed when you least expect it...

Something about Sweta is so... :)

Wednesday, August 02, 2006

Today was special because R came visiting! She was my teacher in school. She was visiting her family and she dropped in this morning. Oh, how it brought back all those lovely, carefree schooldays! How we had feared her no nonsense ways then! Today I felt she was like a child with all that innocence. I have felt this way many times with the 'grown ups' of my childhood. My own growing up and realizing that they are so human and so vulnerable. As a child I felt so protected by their strength and 'grownupness'. Now I have this urge to wrap my arms around them and take care of all of them. I feel that the most for mom and dad.

Today we got the computer shifted to our little space. So it feels heavenly to sit and let these words flow looking out at the forest of plants outside. The sky is full of purple clouds and the air is beautifully fragrant. The breeze is getting wilder and a fine spray just swept into the room :)

Today, this moment is such a blessing :)

afterthought

this evening
i opened the balcony door
and saw the northern horizon
awash with clouds

the city lights
were lost to them
the air was pregnant
with moisture

i saw them
and saw another horizon
another city
another balcony

i was then
so very glad
that today when i turn back
i would not see the
ramshackle two rooms
we called home
then

i turned
just for the heck of it
and saw my lovely home
and the joy of love

i was then
also sad
that we leave behind
what we leave behind
forever

i would have loved also
to go back
and pick up
what i left there
to die,
to hold it in my hands,
and give it wings
to fly
