afterthought
this evening
i opened the balcony door
and saw the northern horizon
awash with clouds
the city lights
were lost to them
the air was pregnant
with moisture
i saw them
and saw another horizon
another city
another balcony
i was then
so very glad
that today when i turn back
i would not see the
ramshackle two rooms
we called home
then
i turned
just for the heck of it
and saw my lovely home
and the joy of love
i was then
also sad
that we leave behind
what we leave behind
forever
i would have loved also
to go back
and pick up
what i left there
to die,
to hold it in my hands,
and give it wings
to fly
